“The best way to predict the future is to invent it.”

In her private practice, MaryLou uses a unique and highly effective combination of hypnosis, imagery, and emotional freedom technique providing quick and powerful results.

My mission is to empower you to be all that you can be. I am committed to gently helping you release your negative feelings, thoughts, beliefs and physical blocks and replace them with positive energies to create a life that is balanced, healthy, fulfilling, and abundant. All sessions, conducted in a comfortable and supportive environment, are customized to your individual needs, desires and goals. Initial consultation/session is usually 2 hours where we decide together how many sessions you’ll need to reach your goals. Some issues may be resolved in 3 to 5 sessions; others may require more time. And, there are times when only one session is enough! At the very least, clients experience a shift in their life after the very first session, such as more confidence, motivation, serenity, and self-love. This is a pro-active therapy, where you leave each session with homework and new tools to assist in your healing, growth, and empowerment.

MaryLou Kenworthy has certifications in clinical hypnotherapy, therapeutic imagery and emotional freedom technique. She is a member of the American Hypnosis Association, American Counseling Association, and Hypnotherapists Union AFI-CIO. There is complete confidentiality with adherence to the Ethical Guidelines of the American Counseling Association.

Hypnosis

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."  - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Behaviors, attitudes and motivations are rooted in your subconscious mind.  Because hypnosis provides us direct access to this subconscious learning center, hypnotherapy is one of the most powerful tools used for personal growth, releasing negatives, achieving goals and creating dramatic and permanent change in our lives.

With hypnotherapy you will be able to dissolve negative thoughts and emotions, limiting beliefs and self-defeating patterns that block you from achieving your desires and manifesting your goals.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that occurs to varying degrees every day of our lives.  We enter hypnosis while daydreaming, watching TV, when experiencing strong emotions, right before falling asleep, and even while driving (have you ever missed your freeway exit?).  While in this state of mind you are highly suggestible.

What is Hypnotherapy?

In a hypnotherapy session you first discuss your goals with your therapist.  Then a hypnotic state is created in which your subconscious mind (the most powerful area of your mind) is open and receptive to taking in desirable, positive suggestions.  At this time you and your therapist revise, refine and reframe any thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back.

The result is a powerful experience where you are an active participant in creating the life you desire.

In addition to behavioral modification and motivational enhancement, hypnotherapy has proven to be a valuable adjunct in providing support to increase positive results of psychological and medical treatments.

A medical referral may be required for some conditions.

Imagery

"Everything you can imagine is real." - Pablo Picasso

Imagery is a highly effective and gentle technique that creates a receptive state of awareness opening us up to the symbolism held in our subconscious mind, which provides learning, insight, growth, change, and inner healing.

Definitions of Guided Imagery:

  • Deliberate, directed daydreaming; a purposeful use of the imagination that automatically alters consciousness.

  • Evocative, multi-sensory meditation that causes deep shifts in body, psyche and spirit.

  • Words, images, and music that mobilize neurophysiology and biochemistry, producing a healing wave that surges through your body, soothing and nurturing every cell.

"If you can dream it, you can do it."  - Walt Disney

Imagery can be as simple as when an athlete imagines the perfection and ease of the next play or as complex as when a cancer patient imagines the shrinking of tumors and strengthening of the immune system. Imagery is not just “visual” but involves all of the senses, emotions, and the body and mind; it can be remembering the smell of Grandpa’s cologne, your favorite song from high school, or recalling the feeling that shot through your body as you won your first race – these are all images. Though these images may not have the same intense impact on you as the real events, they elicit the same essential quality of the experience.

In Transformational Therapeutic Imagery sessions, MaryLou gently guides and encourages clients to allow their own personal and unique images to appear, giving them a sense of empowerment while they explore their inner world to reach understanding and wholeness. When clients take an active part in their imagery journey, it helps facilitate rapid and meaningful change.

Personal Growth, Goal Setting and Improved Performance

"Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will."   - George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950)

When a client is motivated towards specific goals, he/she is encouraged to create a focused Imagery giving these goals power and energy to manifest. One of the imagery techniques that MaryLou uses is to guide clients into their “ideal future” to empower and strengthen them. Once they have designed this ideal future, they review it frequently, creating a strong belief that they will experience the abundant, healthy, and happy future they desire, which gives them confidence and ease when dealing with today’s challenges and motivates them to reach for that future. Sound familiar? Yes, its like your business plan, only much more important - it’s your personal life plan.

Physical and Emotional Healing

“With a sensory image, echoes of the mood, emotions, physiological state, and blood chemistry associated with the original event reverberate in the body."  - Belleruth Naparstek

Stress, anxiety, fear and negative thinking often hinder physical healing by creating a vicious cycle. Using Imagery to reframe fears and negative thinking and create images of desired outcomes elevates serotonin levels resulting in an emotional and physical calm, reduction of pain, and elevation of mood. This makes it a highly successfully technique used for pre and post-surgical procedures, heart disease, cancer, chemo-therapy, migraines, HIV, fibromyalgia, asthma, diabetes, childbirth, weight loss, etc.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an amazing, unique, and efficient energy psychology that can gently transform issues that may be blocking your emotional happiness and physical health. This is an easy process where you stimulate certain energy meridian points by tapping on them while tuned into a negative emotion, memory, or physical issue. Tapping on these points helps balance the energy system resulting in neutralizing and relieving the emotional or physical issue at its core. Some refer to it as an emotional or psychological form of acupuncture.

This technique is safe, easy, efficient and fun to use. MaryLou teaches you the technique during your first session so that you can take an active part in your healing journey.

“Based on impressive new discoveries involving the body’s subtle energies, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has been proven clinically effective (over 80%) for trauma, abuse, stress, fears, phobias, depression, addictions, cravings, physical symptoms and children’s issues."
